PHOTO BLOG: Celebrating NEW RECORDS at 2024 Biketober Bash!
Imagine biking an average of 11 miles on a Reddy Bike per day? That is the new record set by our 100-Mile Challenge Leader, Mike Nogle!
At last Wednesday’s Biketober Bash at the Buffalo History Museum, the Teams at REDDY and Independent Health threw a free party to celebrate personal and system-wide achievements in getting WNYers more mobile! There’s a lot to celebrate.
With still a couple weeks left before our winter recess, we’re proud that residents and visitors of Buffalo-Niagara Falls have already logged more miles and trips than any year thus far since launching in 2016.
We also have more folks logging 100 or more miles on the bikeshare system than ever before in a single year. Throughout our 100 Mile Challenge Contest, March 27-Sept. 21, 103 users tallied 100 or more miles on their profile. We gave each of those users a $10 riding credit for the hard work, along with the first wave of invites to our Biketober Bash. At the party, many had the opportunity to win prizes, including 10 prize packs and a pair of Buffalo Bills tickets, courtesy from our partner, Independent Health. A Grand Prize is given to the bikeshare user who logs the most miles during the contest.
This is Mike's second time winning the leaderboard contest! At last year's Biketober Bash, he won Buffalo Bills tickets along with a prize pack. This year he asked us to give the tickets to another deserving bikeshare user--so we raffled them at the party!
But we weren't settled on giving Mike only a prize pack! Our friends at Cleverhood, a maker of all-weather gear designed for bicyclists, learned of Mike's story weeks ago and made a generous donation to keep him biking even when the weather doesn't want to cooperate! They donated not just one rain cape to Mike, but a second cape to his wife Rosaleen, who introduced Mike to bikeshare years ago and logged 475 miles during this year's contest! And the folks at Cleverhood also printed the Reddy logo on them! The family was joined on stage by their son Ezekiel who was proud to bike his own 104 miles alongside his father!
Above is a leaderboard of our champions who agreed to have their name featured alongside their accomplishment!
